Acer palmatum ´Butterfly´

Japanese Maple
Zone: 5-8
4"-6´/ year
4´ - 6´/ 10´ years
upright

´Butterfly´ is one of the finest of the variegated Japanese maples. The Japanese name for this variety is, "Kocho no mai", which also refers to a type of dancing girl - not hard to imagine as the delicate leaves dance in the wind. These new leaves may have pinkish margins, but are mostly a green and creamy variegation. It is not as hardy as the green or purple-leaved types, thus may require a sheltered site.  Its slow growth rate and small size make it a wonderful centerpeice for the medium or large garden.
