"Gold in the Cold" is a descriptive phrase for several of our Pine selections, and this is certainly one of the best. ´Carsten´s Wintergold´ is an aptly named variety of mugo pine. Its short dense needles, arranged "bottlebrush" style on its limbs, are light green in spring and summer, and magically turn a bright gold color, as the temperatures drop - the colder the temperatures, the brighter the gold coloring! ´Carsten´s Wintergold´ has a growth rate that is slow enough, that it will not outgrow even the small, or medium sized garden areas.
Maintaining winter interest in gardens can sometimes be challenging, however conifers, and the "Gold in the Cold´ varieties in particular, provide easy, and beautiful answers.
